Privacy notice

What we collect

• Your building and unit number
• Your name, email address and phone number
• Your date of birth, and whether you're a student
• Your answers about your home and insurance: who lives with you, whether you've had tenant or home insurance before, your lease start date and move-in date, and the coverage you choose
• Whether you'd like a quote on your car insurance
• When you agreed to each statement in the application
• A scrambled (hashed) form of your internet address, used only to limit repeated attempts and stop abuse. It isn't stored with your application.

Why we collect it

• To get you a tenant insurance quote and arrange your policy. Insurance companies need details such as your date of birth and whether you've had insurance before to offer you a policy.
• To contact you about your application.
• If you ask for a car insurance quote, to contact you about it.
• To let Vrancor know whether your unit is insured, if you agree (see below).

Saving your answers as you go

Your unit number stays only in your browser until you press Continue on the “About you” screen, where you give your name, date of birth, phone number and email address. From then on, we save your answers as you go, so you can finish later.

If you don't finish, we may email you a private link to pick up where you left off, up to three times. Every email has an unsubscribe link. If you don't finish within 30 days, we delete your answers.

Sharing with Vrancor

When you submit your application, we ask for your agreement to share your coverage status with Vrancor, your landlord, so they know your unit is insured. Vrancor can see:

• your name and unit
• where your application stands, for example applied or covered
• your insurance company, policy number, and the dates your policy starts and ends

Vrancor never sees your date of birth, phone number, email address, whether you're a student, whether you've had insurance before, who lives with you, your move-in date, any extra coverage you choose, whether you asked for a car insurance quote, or your price. We never email your information to Vrancor; they see it only on a secure page that requires a sign-in.

You can withdraw your agreement at any time by emailing pl@stoneridgeinsurance.ca. Vrancor will then no longer see your application, but your lease may still require you to show Vrancor proof of insurance.

Who at StoneRidge sees it

Only StoneRidge's licensed brokers and the website's administrators can see your full application, and every time someone opens it, it's recorded.

Who else we share it with

Insurance companies. To get you a quote and arrange your policy, our licensed brokers share your application with the insurance companies we work with. The company you choose handles your information under its own privacy policy.

Companies that run this website for us. They handle your information only to provide their service:

• Supabase, a US company, stores your application in a database in Montréal, Canada.
• Vercel, a US company, runs this website. The part that handles your answers runs in Montréal, Canada, but your information can pass through Vercel's network in other countries, including the United States.
• Resend, a US company, sends this website's emails, including the email that delivers your application to our brokers. Resend keeps a copy of each email for 30 days, in the United States.
• Cloudflare, a US company, runs the check that makes sure a real person is applying, not a computer program. It sees technical details about your browser and device, not your answers.

Information handled outside Canada is subject to the laws of that country and may be accessed by its courts, law enforcement and national security authorities.

We may also share information when the law requires it. We never sell your information.

Cookies and tracking

This website doesn't use advertising, analytics or tracking tools. Cloudflare's check may use its own cookie to do its job.

How long we keep it

• Unfinished applications: deleted 30 days after your last activity.
• Submitted applications: kept for 7 years after your policy ends or the last change to your application, whichever is later, then deleted. We keep it this long so we can answer questions, complaints or claims about your insurance.
• When we delete an application, we keep a record that it existed and how it moved through our process (for example, when it was submitted and when it was updated), without your name, contact details, policy details or any notes about you.
• We keep a record of which emails were sent to you, but not what they said, and delete it along with your application.

Your choices

• You can ask to see the information we have about you, or ask us to correct it.
• You can unsubscribe from reminder emails at any time, using the link in the email.
• You can ask us any question about how we handle your information.
